"The content was thought provoking for both work and life in general. It was great to find out more of the neuro science behind childhood development and also to discover the repair possibilities! A fantastic array of reading and links to resources where given. In a nut shell wow. I hope more people get the chance to learn this useful information." Billy Trenerry Programme co-ordinator Real Ideas

VISION AND AIMS

Research evidence shows that the adults who work with young children can have a powerful, positive, and long-lasting impact on their emotional and social well-being as well as their cognitive outcomes. To maximise the power of these caring relationships, practitioners need to understand how young children’s brains are shaped by their early experiences and how they can respond to and support children who have experienced trauma. This knowledge and understanding is especially important at the moment when we are facing added stresses and trauma in the years following the global pandemic.

This training looks at traumas of omission (infants missing out on sufficient relational experiences) and traumas of commission (infants experiencing trauma such as separation, violence etc.) Without intervention, these can adversely affect the infant’s emotional, cognitive, and social development and long term physical and mental health. So, in this training we will address presenting symptoms, prevention, and intervention.
